Staying well: the importance of minding yourself

In order to achieve your goals and develop your music career, you need to be feeling as well as possible and making sure you are not neglecting your physical and mental wellbeing. We care about artists, and we understand it can sometimes be tough, so we’ve put together a list of some tips to help you stay well. We hope these are helpful.

1. Understand the importance of rest: It is easy to say yes to lots of things, get overworked and forget to take a break. Make sure you are taking regular breaks throughout the day to rest and recharge your body and mind. A good night’s sleep is really important for this. Check out some tips for improving sleep here. If you are having ongoing difficulties with sleep, don’t be afraid to reach out to a medical professional.

2. Nourish your body and mind: Eating a balanced diet and staying hydrated is essential for physical and mental health. Be sure to incorporate foods that nourish your body and your mind. Make sure you’re drinking enough water too!

3. Exercise: Staying active is essential for all aspects of your wellbeing. Choosing an activity that you enjoy can help you try to do it regularly. Exercise is not only great for your body in a physical sense, but it is also a really brilliant way to look after your mental health.

4. Mental health: Mental health is just as important as physical health. Take time to recognise and manage stress, anxiety, or depression if it arises. Regular meditation, talking to a mental health practioner or trusted confidante, or engaging in your favourite hobbies are all great ways to help you stay mentally healthy.

5. Seek help when necessary: If problems arise and linger for more than a few days, seek out professional help. There is absolutely no shame in seeking help from a doctor, therapist, or support group when needed and you deserve to receive the support that will help you feel better. Minding Creative Minds is an organisation established to offer a free 24/7 wellbeing & support programme for the Irish Creative Sector. We have also included a list of specialised support services that are available below, depending on what you are experiencing.
